Experiencing the Bakers' Tradition

The QORMI BREADFESTIVAL – Experiencing the Bakers' Tradition evolves around the concept of promoting the bakers’ traditions in the town of Qormi. This year’s theme also focuses on the dynamic changes in the role of the family and bread making through time.

The chosen theme shall be brought to the public through a series of activities for different segments of society aimed at informally illustrating the chosen theme.

Qormi boasts of having the best “Hobz tal-Malti” (lit. Maltese bread) from all over the Maltese islands, which tradition dates back to the Knights period.  QORMI BREADFESTIVAL –Experiencing the Bakers' Tradition aims at increasing the local awareness towards this dwindling tradition and hopes in relighting interest amongst youngsters to pursue this vocational skill of bread-making.  Furthermore, this project shall portray ‘bread’ as being a uniting factor within the surrounding Mediterranean/European region composed of a diversification of cultures, aiming at bringing different beliefs and traditions closer together.
